'My husband insists I wear make-up every day as he doesn't find me sexy without it'

It can be great fun getting all dolled up to go out to work, or for a special occasion, but it can take a lot of effort.

So naturally, many people prefer not to bother putting on make-up or spending time fixing their hair on the weekends or days when they've not got a lot going on.

We're all for embracing the skin you're in!

One woman has recently decided that she was going to start doing just that every Sunday, as she has become rather fed up of 'tarting herself up' just to spend the day at home.

However, after putting her new plan in motion and going make-up free, her husband got very annoyed, as she explained in a shocking letter to Slate.com's Dear Prudence advice column.

The unnamed wife said that she's been married for 22 years and previously she's always showered, shaved, put on make-up, done her hair and made lots of effort with her outfits every single day of the week.

She's tired of doing this all the time, so instead decided to wear more comfortable clothing on a Sunday, wear her hair up in a ponytail and forgo the make-up.

Her husband was quick to take issue with her "new look" telling her he didn't find it "sexy".

Writing in for advice on her situation, she explained: "I have been happily married for 22 years and we have two children.

"Almost every day (barring sickness and/or camping trips) I have risen, showered, shaved my legs, and spent nearly an hour putting on makeup and fixing my hair. I’m tired of it, so I recently stopped doing it on Sundays. Mind you, I don’t look like a total slob, I just put on moisturiser, put my hair up in a ponytail and wear tracksuits or other casual clothing.

"My husband is having a fit about my grooming-free Sundays. He is worried that this is the beginning of a 'downward spiral' for me into a messy, slobby woman with permanent razor stubble. He points out that he still showers every day and that, while he doesn’t shave on weekends, I’ve told him that his stubble is sexy (it is) but he finds nothing sexy about my new look."

She continued to say that she has no intention of going make-up free on the other six days of the week and that the most they do on a Sunday is work in the garden or go to the supermarket.

"I think he’s being ridiculous and his nagging about it is really getting on my nerves," she added.

"He says it’s not fair of me to change things in the middle of the game like this. I say it’s not fair of him to expect me to tart myself all up every. single. day. Who is right here?"

The advice columnist, Emily Yoffe, was quick to brand the woman's husband a "jerk" for his actions.

She continued to say that the wife didn't need to wash her hair every day and only needed a morning make-up routine that took 10 minutes max, instead of spending hours applying her face.

Emily added: "I assume you take off your makeup when you go to bed so he’s not in shock at seeing you bare-faced. I also assume that you are an autonomous person who can decide how gussied up she wants to get to rake leaves."
