Whitney Houston's incredible life story to be made into film about her career

Whitney Houston’s life story will be made into a film by the man behind hit Queen movie Bohemian Rhapsody.

Sony’s TriStar company won the rights to the film, which is expected to be a celebration of Whitney’s career – leaving out some of the more graphic drug-fuelled disasters which blighted her later life.

Troubled Whitney, regarded as one of the greatest female singers of all time, was 48 when she died by accidental drowning in a Los Angeles hotel room in February 2012.

But a coroner ruled drug abuse and heart disease were also factors.

The film is set to be a huge celebration of Whitney's life and career

The film, provisionally titled I Wanna Dance With Somebody, is backed by Houston’s estate, music producer Clive Davis – who worked with her – and Anthony McCarten, who wrote the Queen biopic.

TriStar head Nicole Brown said: “We have the absolute dream team to create the ultimate celebration of Whitney’s incredible life.”

Clive said: “The full Whitney Houston story has not yet been told.”

Whitney sold over 200 million records worldwide, with hits including Saving All My Love for You, I Wanna Dance With Somebody and I Will Always Love You.

She also starred with Kevin Costner in 1992 blockbuster movie The Bodyguard.

The biopic is expected to be released in 2022.
