How to add more time to your day

There are so many times when it gets to nighttime and I wonder where the day went. Have you ever found yourself in this situation? You look at your to-do list only to discover that you have accomplished nothing?

If you’re tired of watching your day go by without much to show for it or you’re done wishing your day had a few more hours, read on.

Sleep early and wake up early

Turning in early allows you a few minutes to do your nighttime routine like your skincare, journalling and reading your book.

When you wake up say 30 minutes earlier, you will be able to workout, have a healthier breakfast and leave the house in good time to avoid the early morning rush.

Plan and prep your meals

Meal planning and prepping will save you tonnes of time during the week. Make a menu and make meals like stews, chapati, rice and some vegetables can be made in advance. All you’ll need to do during the week is heat them up.

Use the time you’re meal prepping to catch up on your favourite shows.

Schedule time to check your email and social media

Just as you schedule time to fulfill your daily tasks, set aside time to check your messages. This will help you not to waste time online in the name of checking emails or catching up with social media.

You can check your email in the morning, at lunchtime and just before you finish work. Do the same for your social media by setting a timer to regulate how long you spend there. Turn off notifications so that you don’t get distracted when you’re busy doing other things.

Stick to your schedule

Create a schedule, giving each task a specific amount of time. Stick to your working hours and unless necessary, avoid working overtime. Remember that the extra time you spend doing one task takes time away from other tasks that require your attention.

Do the hardest tasks first

I noticed that when faced with harder tasks, I’m more likely to procrastinate and get nothing done come the end of the day. When you begin your day, start with those tasks that require more effort before proceeding to the easier ones. This will leave you feeling more relaxed and make it easier to go about your day.

By managing your time better, working smarter and being disciplined, you will be able to get as much out of your day as possible.
