Man's 'life-changing' carrot peeling hack proves we've all been doing it wrong

Prepping vegetables is far from the most exciting bit of whipping up your favourite meal, ticking both the boring and time-consuming boxes.

But, not anymore.

One man claims we've all been using vegetable peelers 'wrong' after he discovered what he thinks is a 'game-changing' hack.

Account manager Tim, 51, took to Reddit to explain the correct way to use a peel - and it turns out many people have been doing it wrong.

Tim's girlfriend had told him about the hack the week before but he hadn't gotten around to trying it yet, so as he was preparing his bolognese sauce, he recorded his reaction.

Tim starts by peeling the carrot as he usually would, putting the blade at the top of the carrot and running it to the tip, but instead of taking the peeler off and repeating, he pushes it back to the top instead.

After trying it a couple of times, Tim looks into the camera and says "Oh my God, I just figured out how to use this".

He continues: "I've been doing this..." as he demonstrates how people usually use their peelers.

But you can actually peel both ways, speeding up the entire process drastically.

For dramatic effect, he then dropped the peeler to the floor and said: "Who knew".

Tim said: "I was absolutely stunned. It's just something so small and simple in your life that most of us have been doing wrong all along.

"My girlfriend had mentioned it a week before and I hadn’t had a chance to put it to the test until I started making the bolognese.

"I don't normally put a carrot in the sauce but I had searched recipes for the slow cooker and it suggested it, so I decided to give it a go.

"This was my genuine reaction as I hadn't tried it before this. I was incredulous.

"I never imagined it would get so much interest online. I thought a couple of my mates would call me 'boring' for posting it, but it's blown up.

"I think it just shows that we all need a bit of a laugh at the moment.

"I love cooking as it's good stress relief and the slow cooker is just so easy. I like to make a good curry in it, I make a sensational Thai green curry. I'll be using this technique in the future. It's life changing."

And it turns out, not that many people do know about it as thousands of people have watched the video and commented praising him for his life changing hack.

One person said: "He just changed my life!"

Another commented: "That literally changed my whole Peel game".

A third also said: "Today HE learned, and so did the world".

But one person revealed: "The real "today I learned" should be that typically the blades can be taken out and reinserted the opposite way to prolong the life of the peeler.

"You can even buy new blades for some peelers.

"I know that Good Grips used to, although I don't see them on their web site now.

"Starfrit still does, from what I can see.
