Valentine's Day is right around the corner and as such, you might be planning a night away with your significant other.

Each year a great number of people do just this and it results in some pretty interesting scenarios for staff at spas and hotels.

As well as grand declarations of love and marriage proposals, hotel workers have also witnessed some pretty awkward scenes and been asked some downright bizarre questions by guests.

With February 14 fast approaching, more than 30 hotel and spa managers who work with booking website SpaSeekers shared some of the strange and rather racy messages they've received from customers ahead of their visits.

Here's a look at the most common ones.

1. "Will I get aroused during a massage?"

For some men there might be nothing worse than getting an erection at an inappropriate time, but it's a very common problem.

Whilst an erection can be an indicator of being physiologically aroused, it does not necessarily indicate the presence of emotional or sexual desire. Touch can activate the parasympathetic nervous system and therapists often run professional assessments to teach the body to separate the physiological response to touch from inappropriate sexual intentions.

The customer service team at SpaSeekers have heard it all with men (and women) calling for advice regarding becoming sexually aroused during spa treatments.

Inquiries nearly always peak around Valentine's for this, with many booking in for a couples massage and fearing they will get a little too excited.

2. "Is it safe to have sex in a hot tub or pool?"

According to SpaSeekers, the thought of steamy hot water and fast jet streams gets a lot of their customers excited - so much so that their phones and social media DMs have been filled with questions about whether they can have sex in them.

While it may look like a romantic thing to do, it's neither advised nor allowed in most establishments.

Plus having sex in hot water comes with added health risks such as rashes and yeast infections. Lovely.

3. Room service with extra spice

From oysters to asparagus, hotel staff are inundated with requests for all sorts of aphrodisiacs to be sent to rooms around Valentine's Day.

Staff note that room service requests tend to peak during this time as guests are less likely to leave their room over the Valentine's period.

One hotel manager adds that they recently had a guest enquire online as to whether they could have their room service brought to them by butlers in the buff. (You do you!)

As well as all this, SpaSeekers staff say they've been asked to leave some interesting items in bedrooms, including buckets of ice, whipped cream, melted chocolate and even hot wax.

Let's not even think about the clean-up.

4. Cheeky channels

Although most hotels offer a wide selection of television channels, some of them just don't cut it for guests.

Staff say they've had high volumes of requests for adult entertainment as well as a demand for Netflix- with a lot of "chill" expected to be on the cards.

5. Let's get it on

A number of clients have asked for sexy music playlists to be put on while they're getting spa treatments, including hits from Marvin Gaye and a lot of smooth RnB.

6. Soundproof walls

Bookings at busier spa hotels often have an array of unusual requests, but one of the most common is whether the rooms have soundproof walls.

Customers want to go about their business without having to be worried about being heard if things get a little noisy.
