Why you should stop being too hard on yourself

Have you noticed how you’ve been criticizing yourself too much lately?

Maybe it is the self-judgment you seem to be constantly taking yourself through. You seem to magnify all your flaws and roll into a spiral of self-blame and possibly self-punishment. You need to reevaluate your thoughts from time to time because if you are too deep to  notice, someone will, because you can’t hide the adverse effects self-criticism. Being too hard on yourself is a tough road to tread, because the routes you create in your head can lead to doom. Here’s why you should stop being too hard on yourself.

Negative thoughts lead to negative actions

When you are too hard on yourself, you read all your scripts in negative format. You tend to attach so much negativity towards everything. It could be your feelings or your incapability to perform a certain task or worse still, branding yourself negatively. The more you think of yourself as an ‘idiot’, ‘stupid’, ‘useless’ or ‘trashy’ over a mistake, the more you act it out. It will make you believe that you are incapable and the result? Low confidence or worse still, self-harm.

Self-compassion is a route to fulfillment

Choosing to be your own cheerleader is the best decision you can make. If you are the one who inwardly tears themselves down, it will be a matter of time before you burn out. Give yourself a confidence boost by understanding that you lack superpowers and are only human.

Kicking out the feeling that you have to push self beyond unreasonable limits is a death trap. When you are compassionate towards yourself and your actions, you become freer in spirit, energy and thinking.

You are of value

Are you struggling with feelings of being worthless? The truth is, you can amount to anything. This is only if you set your mind to it. It all begins in the mind before anything else. Everyone is built with outstanding potential for greatness. The only thing choking out that potential blooming is your own self-destruction through negative affirmation. Remind yourself, often, that you are worthy and capable of doing anything. In due time, you shall notice the realm of power around you to perform your tasks.

The world around you needs positive energy from within you

Since we live in a social space, relating with other people is inevitable. When you get to be too hard on yourself, you tend to be gloomy, inactive, and ooze negative energy. Unfortunately, this is what you end up carrying everywhere you go. In turn, people notice and can profile you incorrectly based on this. Consider a job interview. Would you hire an experienced interviewee who thinks their previous retrenchment was a room for improvement or someone entirely depressed from that occurrence? Truth is, the one looking at life from a positive lens will magnify the same at their new job.

Mistakes are learning curves not death sentences

Mistakes are our way of life. How we treat ourselves and culture our attitude is what transforms them into lessons. Understand that what you are beating yourself about is not your definition. It is an opportunity for you to take responsibility and go back to your drawing board, even if it means recollecting yourself for the umpteenth time. Get up, dust off and keep going. Life waits.

Focusing on what you can control gives you more power

Stop for a minute and catch yourself trampling on your esteem. Is it worth it? Up to what point did the devastating event involve your power? Get to clearly define what you had control in and what you did not. In many cases, you realize that you had no power to control what you’ve been whining about.

It limits your room for self-improvement

To move forward, you have to keep on improving. Constantly beating yourself up will only stagnate you. The concept of self-help books and seminars is to give you what you know and should tell yourself. When you affirm self, you will see your potential, worth and resultantly grow.

Love yourself more this season and know you are your own best friend. Pulling yourself up by telling positives to your mind is key.

What makes you happy?
