Living

A women’s Ballon d’Or will be launched this year and it will mark the very first occasion for the prestigious award which will be open to female footballers.

The magazine France Football responsible for handing out the award presented its first Ballon to Sir Stanley Matthews in 1956.

Initially, the award was given to males, but in December, 3rd, a France football award will be given to the best female footballer in Paris.

Pascal Ferre, says that women soccer is a booming discipline that deserves the same respect as that of men soccer.

On October 8th, 15 nominees will be shortlisted and a jury of journalists from countries where women is soccer is growing fast, will have a chance to choose the magnificent footballer in 2008.

Pascal Ferre the magazine's editor-in-chief, says that the jury voting for the women is totally different from that voting for the men because it requires only experts to vote.

As per Pascal, all female players are optimistic about France football and they are excited for it as the world of soccer finally considers them.  They are also looking forward to their great day.

Raymond Kopa was the first French Ballon d’Or, therefore the magazine is launching an award for the young player which will be named after him.

The current men’s holder of the Ballon d’Or is Cristiano Ronaldo.
