Njambi Koikai weighs in on the KNH saga

Lady Speak

Njambi Koikai has been suffering from her endometriosis for quite some time now. She is a strong woman who is still struggling from the pain of the numerous surgeries she has undergone. We are impressed by her strength and also the fact that she has openly talked about it and creating awareness on the disease, as horrific as it is. She has always been in support for women and the recent Kenyatta National Hospital saga got to her and she could not be silent about it. She put up a post on her Instagram to describe how the women who have just delivered in KNH suffer which we are in utter shock over, describing what women in Kenyatta Hospital undergo after delivery. Here is what she wrote:

“Imagine having to wake up at 3 am to breastfeed your child while your stitched up and you can’t take the lift. Imagine going up and down the stairs in stitches. Imagine the pain. Heck when your vagina is ripped and stitched up, you can’t even pee. You can’t even squat. Yoh American women said Times Up. It’s about damn time we also said TIME IS DAMN UP.”

“So I’ve described to you about what I’ve gone through. Now imagine while you’re stitched trying to even stand up straight to try and walk, you meet a morgue attendant in a lift ferrying a dead body from the hospital to the morgue. This demon, unveils the body to scare you. You don’t even have the strength to scream. But you have to run for your life. These morgue attendants also rape dead bodies. So they rape a woman who’s undergone CS. The stitches are still raw. So imagine what diseases these bloody devils carry. Now the trauma from giving birth alone is not easy to deal with. Then add rape. The death penalty should be re-introduced.”

“The other day, a former deejay friend posted on his timeline that just because women cramp and give birth they shouldn’t feel like they just won a Nobel Prize. I’m so angry. I’m sad. I’m disappointed. These women should be on the same floor with their babies. Who will stand for the poor women of our country? Who will support the women of this country?”

"Btw before pregnancy, most women who have reproductive health issues face the worst kind of treatment from most of these gynaes. Our pain is normalised and told it’s in our head. We have been accused of failed abortions etc. This just leaves me wondering….where are the women of this country safe? Like which woman can stand up and say she hasn’t had to deal with some type of crap? I’m bloody angry, tired and sad.”

The KNH story is most definitely heartbreaking. We hope that the government and all relevant parties shall come up with a permanent solution for this problem that innocent women are facing.
