Achieving Woman
 Njanja Koby, makeup

Fierce, feisty and a professional Makeup Artist, Njanja Koby, tells Lucy Robi about her incredible career, her favuorite makeup trends and whats in her bag.

1. How long have you been doing makeup and how did you get started?

Professionally, I have been doing it for five years now. I took a beauty therapy course and the rest is history.

2. What do you love most about doing makeup?

I love the confidence it gives. It's like wearing your best outfit everything changes from the way you walk to the way you talk.

3. How would you describe your signature look? What sets you apart from other makeup artists?

I love to let my face breath so I really don't do foundation everyday unless I am going somewhere special. In a normal day I just make sure my brows are perfect, some mascara and lip stain.

4. What are some of your favourite trends currently?

Dewy /glowy look and barely there make up.

5. Who are some of the people who have inspired you along your career?

My husband has been my greatest inspiration.

6. Today's woman is busier than ever. What is the easiest/quickest way to turn a day/work look into something that works for night out?

Just need to change your lip colour to something bold but if you are not into bold colours. A simple eyeliner and a gloss will do. Don't forget to powder your face to make it look fresher.

7. What three makeup items should no woman leave home without?

Lipbalm/lipgloss, a mirror, compact powder together with your brush.

8. You've done such beautiful work on so many celebrities. Who have you not worked on that you'd kill to get into your chair?

Wahu. She is beautiful and simply because people say we kind of look alike

9. Some trends can feel a bit out-there for the average woman. Especially style-conscious women of "a certain age" who wish to remain current but fear looking as if they're trying too hard. What are some comfort-zone-friendly ways to rock the latest trends?

My current favourite trend is barely there make up, which any woman of any age can wear comfortably.

10. What has been the biggest challenge of your career?

I think the biggest challenge is being a mother and a career woman is not easy. Balancing the two is quiet challenging.

11. If you were not a makeup artist, what else would you do?

I think I would be a stylist. I love dressing up.

12. If you were to go back in time to give advice to your younger self, what would it be?

Nothing comes easy I should learn to be patient and trust God more.

13. What advice would you give to women when they are choosing a makeup artist?

Don't just get a make up artist cause they are cheap, get someone who is willing to listen and understand what you want and be able to deliver. For me it's not always about the money, it's about how I make someone feel when they look at themselves. That's what motivates me.
