Dj Joe Mfalme reminisces his campus days

My Man

Dj Joe Mfalme, 29, also known as Joseph Mwenda is one of the most sought after disc jockeys in Kenya. He was born and bred in Meru County. His interest in being a Dj began at the early age of 13 years while listening to some of Kenya’s pioneer Djs.

Alumni: Which university/college did you attend?

Dj Joe Mfalme: I attended Shang Tao Media School of Digital Arts And Animation.

A: What did you major in?

Dj Joe Mfalme: I came to Nairobi to study animation. At that time, I wanted to be an animator.

A: Your worst class was...

Dj Joe Mfalme: I have never had a worst class because we were always on the computer making cartoons.

A: What was your best campus experience?

Dj Joe Mfalme: Going to class and creating cartoons. Bringing a creation to life is very interesting. I don’t enjoy theory classes so I enjoyed the exams because they were practical and I passed them very well.

A: Most embarrassing campus experience...

Dj Joe Mfalme: I really never had one.

A: How were your dating experiences in college?

Dj Joe Mfalme: Interestingly, I did not date during my four years in campus.

A: Worst lecturer...

Dj Joe Mfalme: I’ll be in trouble if I answer that because he’s my buddy presently.

A: Which hangout joints did you go to after classes?

Dj Joe Mfalme: After class we used to hang out at Ibiza back, but it was closed. We had lunch and stayed there until the next morning because it was a restaurant and club.

A: The hottest girl in campus was.

Dj Joe Mfalme: That is hard to decide because we only had three females in class. Animation was mostly for dudes.

A: What do you know now that you didn’t know then?

Dj Joe Mfalme: I wish I knew that my parents would support my dejaaying passion. I probably wouldn’t have done animation. But then animation gave me the opportunity to come to Nairobi.

A: If you could go back to college what would you do differently?

Dj Joe Mfalme: I would go to an aviation school which I intend to do next year.

A: What did you do after campus career wise?

Dj Joe Mfalme: I became a Dj.
