Your armpits need detox too

Beauty

Did you know that your armpits also need detoxing? Think of all the years that you've used deodorants and antiperspirants which may contain aluminum and other chemicals. The skin around your armpits is more absorbent than other areas on your body.

Why should you detox your armpits?

1. It will result in less odour

2. It will result in less sweat

3. It will ease the transition from using ordinary deodorants to natural products

4. It may help to draw out chemicals from the skin

What you need:

When it comes to detoxification, bentonite clay is the go-to product. When put in liquid, produces an electric charge, causing it to expand like a sponge and absorbs toxins, heavy metals and impurities. Therefore, this clay will absorb toxins from deep within your armpits.

Ingredients

- 1 tablespoon bentonite clay powder

- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar (ACV)

- 1 teaspoon water.

Utensils

This clay should not come into contact with anything metallic as this will reduce its effectiveness. You can use plastic, glass, wooden or ceramic bowl and spoon.

In a clean bowl, mix the clay with the ACV and water. The mixture should be soft and fluffy. You may add extra water as needed.

Apply a layer of the mask on clean dry armpits. Sit for 10 – 20 minutes, allowing it to dry. If the ACV causes discomfort, you may keep the mask 5 minutes, or you could use more water and less ACV.

Wash with warm water or use a wet washcloth.

Repeat this process once or twice a week for at least a month. Your underarm odour will reduce over time. This is an indication that the residual impurities in your sweat glands and lymph nodes are being successfully excreted.

Do not apply commercial deodorant or talcum powder that contains aluminum after detoxing. They will block the channels that you are actually trying to unclog. Instead, wipe your underarms with diluted hydrogen peroxide.

These are available from healthy food stores. Some are rock salt deodorants, others include bicarbonate of soda, coconut oil or activated charcoal as their active ingredients. You can also make your own at home using recipes from the internet.

When your underarms are undergoing a detox, there are times you may end up sweating more than usual. This is healthy but to avoid embarrassment, carry refreshing wipes or a clean wash cloth. You can always freshen up in the course of the day.
