Why you should not fear death

Have you ever thought about your own death and smiled instead? That's exactly what happens to me anytime I look into the future and imagine the day when He will call and I will answer.

As Africans, we are known to dread death with every ounce in us; no wonder the thought of writing wills is looked down upon and considered a taboo just the same way we dread taking life insurance believing it will beckon death and its relatives. Well, these are just some of the reasons you should smile anytime your own death 'kidnaps' your thoughts.

No one is immortal

This is the greatest of them all. Just the thought that life is a journey that comes to an end at some point should keep you at ease and stop your heart from racing thus turning your heartbeat to some traditional Timbuktu drumbeats. Sometimes I listen to people talking ill of the dead and I give them that look a hawk gives a chick that has escaped from its grip! That look that says 'Next time buddy.....next time'. What I do not understand is why some people talk ill of the dead, perhaps they are made of steel and all they need is some welding to fix them up when in physical trouble. My friend, unless you are a statue erected somewhere with some really tough material, watch your pretty little mouth.

Reunion

Have you ever sat back and imagined how it would be meeting your loved ones who crossed over when you hadn't had enough of them? Forget about high school and family reunions, this one will be one huge one that will not need creating of a WhatsApp group and contributing some cash. All this reunion needs is answering once the most high calls! Ooh how I miss this reunion.

Rest

Rest oooh rest! This is what many people look forward to after a terrible time on this earth. Some of the things we go through kill the hope in us and make us weak in spirit. Sometimes we look above and tell the most high to take us home, home where there will be no more pain! Home where the streets of gold are laid and where the roses never fade! Yes, some of us look forward to that rest, away from the physical and emotional pain we undergo on earth. I think about this rest, about not having to beat traffic, about not worrying about my security or money. This rest makes me smile!

Accomplished missions.

Do you have a bucket list in life? Have you laid down some of the things you want to accomplish in life before you go yonder? This list makes one be still and at peace. This list makes one feel like a hero! Like you have finished the race. If you can, write down a list and work on it such that you have to worry not anytime that 'bad' thought flashes your brain. Write it down and work on it so that we will not have to wail on your burial day shouting 'Oooh and she had not yet met her mother in law like she wanted'! Pick up the phone and call that mother in law now, finish the race!! Then wait for a smile.

Writing a will

I know most of you will run away from this point. Sweetheart, if you suspect that your designer perfumes and stilettos will cause commotion among those you have left behind after your death, jot down a will and dish them out to people you would wish to have them. As you rest in peace, help us remain in peace too. Your will be your ticket to a perfect rest.
