What is your current favourite gadget? My favourite gadget right now is the mini facial steamer from Ozone and Aroma therapy brands which I love because of its therapeutic and economical nature.

What is so good about it? The steamer has an integrated aromatherapy compartment where you can incorporate different scents from vanilla to rose which often crown the therapeutic experience. One can also regulate how much steam they need blowing onto their face and the best part is its portability. That way, I can use my steamer anywhere in the house.

What inspired you to get the gadget? I had seen the gadget at my local spa and salon and after trying it the first time, I remember going back several times just for the steaming because of the effects it had on my face. At that time I would have done anything to get it to my house.

Where did you shop for the gadget? My friend had offered to ship one for me from China when I expressed interest, but after searching on Google I came across a local shop which which had it and that’s where I bought it from.

How do you operate the gadget? Once you grasp the facial steaming concept, operating the gadget becomes very easy. All one needs to do is to fill up the water holder with certain measurements, add any scents you would like, and then set the timer based on how long you want to be under the steamer.

Do you prefer spa sessions as compared to personal beauty routines? I must admit that spa sessions are quite relaxing and therapeutic because all one does is show up at the spa and get comfortable as the beauticians work on you. However, I felt that I was spending a lot at the spa so I started coming up with my own beauty routines. I always get a sense of accomplishment each time I perform my own beauty routines.

Some of your personal beauty routines include?

Facial steaming for a start thanks to my gadget, I also do natural treatments for my face using honey, avocados, eggs and lemon which often give me a supple and glowy skin as compared to beauty creams which may harm certain skin types.

Have you ever had issues with your skin? Yes!  I had acne while growing up, but mine was quite conspicuous as compared to my peers. From back in the day, dermatologists advised me not to use creams and certain make up and to date, I often feel like I skipped a beauty phase but I made up for it as I grew older.

What did you use as a substitute before getting the gadget? I used to go to the spa a lot but I also remember facial steaming back in the day. We would fill up our college buckets with hot water, bend over them and use towels to retain the heat.

How do you maintain the gadget? Well apart from the usual “keeping clean and using clean water” plus the manual guidelines, the facial steamer is quite outright to use and doesn’t need too much training.

What in your opinion is one of the disadvantages of using the gadget? It is wholly dependent on electricity so I cannot use it on those electricity rationing days, then again it consumes a lot of power and especially when my girlfriends come over and they all want to use it.

What other gadget are you planning to buy? A massage tool kit that will include; a cordless body and neck massager, oils, lotions, and hot stones which will always come in handy when I’m tired and in need of a massage.

What’s your advice to women who would like to buy such a gadget? Always research and buy gadgets that will be a great economic alternative to your long spa days. Otherwise, you may invest on a gadget only to realise that you do not need it as much
