Naivasha GK Prison is in the news yet again when it recorded, for the first time in its history, a woman candidate in the KCPE exams. Twenty-year-old Esther Wanjiku Wamaitha, the only woman candidate, joined 58 other inmates in sitting for the Mathematics paper in the largest penal institution in the country. Incidentally, Wanjiku who is serving four years, was jailed for stealing so that she could pay for her school fees a year ago. She exuded confidence as the exams kicked off and blamed peer pressure for her arrest, adding that the time in prison had changed her life.
