Why it is a good idea to observe table manners

Living

Table manners refer to the appropriate conduct expected of people at the dining table. Children, as well as adults, usually break the rules of table manners. How they eat and use utensils is often not acceptable.

While seated at a table, ensure that you conform to the accepted mannerisms. It is wrong to do anything that would offend someone on the table, or worse, make him or her leave. The common mistakes we make include chewing food with our mouths open, speaking with food in our mouths and putting our elbows on the table. Other mistakes include rushing to the rest room while eating, eating before others are served, not saying grace and serving yourself a large portion of food when there is not enough for others.

In case you are allergic to a dish, inform your host politely. It is also a good idea to start eating after your host has picked up his or her fork. Observing table manners shows that you are well bred. It earns you and your parents respect.
