Homa Bay Woman Rep Hon Gladys Wanga has been elected to chair the Finance and National Planning Committee of the National Assembly.

Hon Wanga succeeds Hon Joseph Limo, who was removed from the position allegedly over political affiliations, to become the first woman to hold the powerful position since independence.

Hon Wanga took to social media to celebrate her big appointment terming it “a big for women’s leadership.”

The famous ODM legislator also thanked the President and her party leader Hon Raila Odinga:

A big win for women's leadership as this is the first time in the history of the Kenyan Parliament that a woman chairs the Finance and National Planning Committee #Bunge pic.twitter.com/8b8mcVOoPG

A woman of many firsts, Wanga was also the first female Secretary-General of Kenyatta University’s students council back in 2003. Ten years later, she was elected the first Woman Rep of Homa County.
