Recently, fashion lovers have seen a change in the line-up on the runway. Hijab-wearing models are walking the fashion week runways, bringing with them new talent and diversity.
Below are three hijab-wearing models who are causing waves in the fashion industry.
Halima Aden
Most recently on the cover of Sports Illustrated in a hijab and burkini, Halima Aden is a Kenyan-born Somali-American model. She has also graced magazines such as Glamour, Allure and Vogue Arabia.
Halima was the first hijab-wearing high-fashion model to walk the international runway and be signed by a major modelling agency. She is signed with IMG Models. She took part in the London Modest Fashion Week (2016)
Adesuwa Aighewi
Half Nigerian, half Chinese, Adesuwa Aighewi was chosen as ‘Breakout Star of the Year’ by models.com. She has walked for Yeezy, Fendi, Kenzo, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, among other brands.
The American-Nigerian model wants to venture into film-making.
Mariah Idrissi
In 2015, Mariah Idrissi caught the attention of the world when she took part in the H&M ‘Close the Loop’ campaign. This campaign made her the first hijab-wearing model. She then became a leading personality for modest fashion.
Idrissi is of Pakistani and Moroccan decent. She was part of the first Istanbul Modest Fashion Week which was held in Turkey in 2016. She was also featured in the Fenty Beauty campaign.
The British model is also an active humanitarian, public speaker and online personality.
