Simple tips on how to celebrate your mother every month

Achieving Woman

I am hosting a mother with a newborn baby and it is amazing how much focus and constant attention she is giving the infant despite her personal aches and pains.

She can be seen rocking the baby round the clock both day and night with compassionate determination sacrificing both her sleep and her personal comfort.

It, therefore, seems quite unfair to dedicate a single day in May to mothers while they work year in, year out to make sure that everyone else is nurtured. How about setting aside the entire month of May to show your mom some love?

Flowers each Week

With about Sh300, it is possible to get a good quality bunch of flowers. With a bigger budget you could get a fantastic flower arrangement. Surprise your mother by buying her a fresh bunch of flowers every week.

She will be delighted to receive the first batch but will be taken by total surprise when you deliver the second one, the third and even a fourth one.

Vary flower colours and types each week so as to bring some life into her living space for an entire month while steering away from peak time of mothers’ day when prices tend to soar up.

Set up home dinner

Surprise her with a well laid out dinner at home of her favourite foods and drinks. Bring family members to dine with her and celebrate a home-made dinner at the comfort of familiar home setting.

This treat works very well for mothers with infants who are not able to go out yet or those who may not have a minder to take care of the baby and would worry the entire time if she left her offspring at home.

Decorate the table with colour co-ordinated napkins, seat bows in feminine colours like pinks and lilac or in the mother’s favourite colour.

Photo Gallery

Frame flash back pictures of your mother in her younger days and others when she is caring or feeding the babies and put the photos in a conspicuous place which she can see when she walks in.

Alternatively, you can arrange them in a photo album or create a scrap book with captions of what was happening at each event for her keepsake.

Take her out

This is a love language for many women. Take her out for dinner for a spa and beauty treat. If she is a super planner she will require that you give her some notice time so she can organise her house and make her hair and make-up and get a baby sitter, if required.

However, if she is the impulsive type then she can easily handle a surprise dinner and get ready in no time. Take time to schedule your mother into your busy schedule because for your entire life she has spent plenty of thoughts and efforts fitting you into her already tight schedule.
