The five common duties of bridesmaid

Living

Have you ever wondered what the duties of bridesmaid are? Or you belong to the majority of us who think that they are part and parcel of a wedding and that’s all?

Being asked to be a bridesmaid is a wonderful honor and one that most girls feel incredibly lucky to experience. However, if you’ve never been one before, it can seem a slightly daunting task. Therefore, here is what you need to know about the duties of bridesmaid.

1. Emotional support

It goes without saying planning a wedding is an extremely emotional time, and the bride will need your support both during the months leading up to the wedding and on the actual day. No matter how stressful the ordeal becomes it's important to be a trooper. Be there for her and support her in all ways you can.

2. Plan all the parties

Lend a hand to the Maid of Honor, the mother of the bride, and anyone else who is involved in planning the big events. Offer to take on a specific task, like organizing and executing the games at the shower, or making restaurant reservations for the bachelorette party. Or, simply ask whoever is hosting how you can be most helpful!

3. Go wedding dress shopping with the bride-to-be

Wedding dress shopping is a unique experience for every bride and the number of people in the entourage will likely differ from bride to bride. If you’re asked to join, it’s important to follow a few etiquette rules while shopping — and, while you're at it, study up on the latest wedding dress trends so you're an informed audience.

4. Be on Hand at the Wedding

It's likely you'll have to run some last-minute errands on the day of the wedding, including confirming flower delivery times, meeting and greeting the ceremony officiant, and grabbing food to make sure your bride isn't hungry. Additionally, you'll probably have to serve as auxiliary hostess at the reception by introducing guests, making sure they know where the bar is located and inviting them to sign the guest book.

5. Chip in for the parties if you can

While you shouldn’t have to shoulder the costs completely on your own, consider splitting the cost of the pre-wedding activities among the bridal party. It’s also proper wedding etiquette for guests to buy the couple a wedding gift.

If you got the chance to ask God one question, what would it be?
