Trouble started when one of the plainclothes officers guarding Magoha started pushing journalists away at Kosawo Primary School.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha's security team was yesterday on the spot for allegedly assaulting journalists. This after a member of his security detail indecently grabbed Nation photographer Ondari Ogega. Mr Ogega was part of a group of journalists covering Prof Magoha’s tour of schools in Vihiga and Kisumu to assess the delivery of new desks. Trouble started when one of the plainclothes officers guarding Magoha started pushing journalists away at Kosawo Primary School.

A female photojournalist was also assaulted by the policeman as he sought to prevent the journalists from taking pictures. The incidents immediately sparked uproar among the media fraternity, with Kisumu Journalists Network (KJN) chairman Rushdie Oudia describing the harassment an affront to press freedom.

"KJN takes this opportunity to draw the attention of CS Magoha, Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai and Minister for Interior Fred Matiang'í to take action against the said rogue officer," said Mr Oudia.

He said the officer's actions were unwarranted, adding that the incident had instilled fear among journalists.
