German ordered to take DNA test

Mombasa, Kenya: A woman who claims she was impregnated by a German she met online has got an order from a Mombasa court compelling the foreigner to undergo a DNA test to determine if he is the father of her child.

The German suffered a blow last week when the Children’s Court in Mombasa stopped him from marrying in Nairobi after the first woman, Roselyine Atieno, got wind that he had secretly returned to Kenya to marry.

Atieno and Andreas Knobel met, chatted and fell in love over the internet, following which he came to Kenya to meet her on March 27 last year, before returning to Germany on April 1. Knobel, an architect and businessman, returned to Germany after consummating the relationship.

Help Atieno

He later returned to Kenya without Atieno’s knowledge and she only learnt about his presence when he was about to marry another woman. She rushed to court to stop the wedding. The order stopping the wedding also barred him from leaving Kenya and ordered him to appear at the Children’s Court for hearing.

Yesterday, Atieno successfully applied for the orders before the Mombasa resident magistrate.

“Since the man is still in the country after being restrained, it is better that he waits for the DNA test, which should be handed over in court on January 27,” said the magistrate, who rejected an application by Knobel in which he wanted the matter to be settled out of court as he had offered to help Atieno.
