KNBS warns residents against fake job adverts

HOMABAY, KENYA: The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has alerted Homa-Bay residents against being conned by people who produce fake job advertisements for this year’s census.

Unknown people masquerading to be officials of the KNBS have devised a tendency of circulating job advertisements via social media platforms to attract applications from the county residents.

One of the advertisements which has been widely circulated requires residents to send their applications for the job of enumerators.

Some of the roles stipulated in the advert is dividing geographical areas into small units for developing maps, development of data collection and actual census scheduled for August and September.

But speaking to The Standard on Tuesday, the County Statistics Officer Peter Ochiel dismissed the advert.

Ochiel said the KNBS had not issued any of such an advert.

He told residents to shun it.

Ochiel said the fake adverts are used by conmen who want to obtain funds from the public through falsehood.

“The KNBS has not advertised any job census. Those who are circulating the adverts are conmen who want illegal gains from the public,” said Ochiel.

He urged residents to seek information from the KNBS offices in the county whenever they want the right information.

“I don’t know where such people produce the adverts from. Let residents seek the right information from our offices to enable them make the appropriate decisions,” Ochiel said.
