How each player rated against Ethiopia yesterday.
Harambee Stars produced a magnificent performance in their 3-0 victory over Ethiopia to inch closer to the 2019 Afcon qualifiers at Kasarani Stadium yesterday.
Here’s how each player marked out of 10.
Patrick Matasi –8
The Tusker goalkeeper kept his third consecutive clean sheet. Though he was rarely troubled, he perfectly commanded and defended his 18-yard box.
Philemon Otieno– 8
He was excellent and completely at ease defensively. He did well to contain the pacy Ethiopian wingers.
Musa Mohammed– 8
Like the first leg, he commanded the defence with military precision and combined perfectly with Brian Mandela to protect the goalkeeper. He was handed the arm-band after Victor Wanyama limped off injured.
Brian Mandela– 7
Though he was booked after fouling his marker, he looked comfortable, forming a tight partnership with Musa. He stayed compact and was quick to avert any threat.
Abud Omar – 8
He combined well with Marcelo on the left flank. He attacked well and looked threatening down his flank together with Eric Ouma. He clearly enjoyed the partnership with Ouma.
Victor Wanyama – 9
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder redeemed himself as the captain with a brilliant performance at the heart of the midfield. He bossed the midfield and even surged forward in attack. He capped the performance with a well executed penalty.
Dennis Odhiambo – 8
He has established himself as one of the most consistent performers in the national team. He kept it simple and perfect, covering and allowing Wanyama to do the majority of ball searching and pouring forward to assist in attack. He could have scored but skied his shot late in the second half after being set up by Ismael Gonzalez.
Francis Kahata – 6
He was not much involved in the game and barely affected the result.
Eric Johanna – 10
He was a threat on the right flank. He was with no doubt the man-of-the-match after being involved in the three goals.
Eric Ouma Marcelo – 8
He was involved in two goals. He made good runs on the left flank and could have broken the deadlock early but his shot narrowly missed the target. He tracked back and assisted Omar.
Michael Olunga – 8
He scored an absolutely magnificent opener to ease the work for the team. A willing runner and gave his teammates options.
