A presiding officer who allegedly made a wrong entry in the recent repeat election in Kandara Constituency in Murang'a County has been charged with altering presidential votes.

Peter Kirugu Kamande, who caused political tempers to flare, was in charge of the Kirii polling centre.

He was charged with altering 440 votes for President Uhuru Kenyatta and giving them to independent candidate Kavinga Kaluyu.

The poll official was charged as police remained tight-lipped over the fate of Kandara MP Alice Wahome, who was captured on video harassing an IEBC official.

Yesterday, Murang’a CID boss Julius Rutere said police had yet to complete their investigations.

Mr Rutere said Ms Wahome had recorded a statement to facilitate investigations being spearheaded by the Murang’a South criminal investigations office.

The investigating officer said the lawmaker was among other witnesses who had recorded  statements in connection with the Friday incident.

Kandara Senior Resident Magistrate Manuela Kinyanjui referred Kamande's matter to the Murang’a Principal Magistrate's Court, which has been gazetted to handle electoral matters.
