National Land Commission chairman Muhammad Swazuri has escaped scrutiny by the current Parliament over claims he received a Sh1.2 million bribe.

This was after a judge declined to lift orders stopping MPs from debating a motion to remove him from office and instead pushed the hearing of the case challenging his scrutiny to October 3. By then, a new Parliament will be in place.

Attorney General Githu Muigai accused Swazuri of using unorthodox means to block the scrutiny. He said the process MPs adopted to remove him was lawful.
