Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology bags 23 medals to emerge overall winners in college games

Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology (RVIST) amassed 22 medals to emerge overall winners as the curtain came down on the Kenya Technical Institutions Sports Organisation (KETTISO) athletics championships in the instiute’s backyard yesterday.

RVIST also won the men and women’s titles in the three-day competition with 11 medals in the men’s category (six gold, three silver and three bronze medals) and 11 medals in the women’s category (four gold, two silver and five bronze).

The victory has assured them of a ticket to the inaugural East African Technical Institutions Games in Gulu, Uganda, from August 14-28. Seven countries are expected to participate.

The countries that will participate in the regional championship are hosts Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi and Zanzibar.

RVIST Chief Principal Eddy Koimet said the college would take part in the regional championships.

“We have invested in our athletes and this is the secret behind our success. We have allowed them to take part in different half and full marathon races in the country all year around besides several Athletics Kenya championships,” Koimet said.

Coming in second was Kaiboi with 15 medals (six gold, five silver, and four bronze) ahead of Mawego with six medals (four gold, a silver, and a bronze), Keroka 10 (three gold, four silver, and three bronze), and Friends College Kaimosi five (three gold, a silver, and a bronze).

Rift Valley Technical Training Institute were sixth with 13 medals (two gold, eight silver, and three bronze).
