Cases of poaching, deforestation reduce by half since 2013

Kenya: Cases of poaching and deforestation have reduced by half since 2013, current figures show.

Environment and Natural Resources Cabinet Secretary Prof Judi Wakhungu credits the reduction to the collaboration between the ministry and partners like Monitoring for Environment for Security in Africa (MESA) and Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) which enables them to use open source land mapping tools. These tools enable better use of freely available satellite information for natural habit conservation assessment.
