Two suspected rival gangs injure five children in a shootout in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya - Five children aged between six and ten were Tuesday evening shot and wounded during a crossfire exchange between two rival gangs of suspected robbers in Dandora area, Nairobi.

During the shootout, one suspected thug was shot dead by the rival group, police said.

A gang of three was seen arguing over a loot they had when one of them drew out a gun and started shooting, killing one of them in the 3pm incident.

Buruburu OCPD Charles Kerich identified the diseased as Martin Njogu.

“Witnesses say they were arguing over cash or something that they had when the deceased was shot at. This was after a chase which also saw children who were playing near there injured,” he said.

He added that police were combing the area to trace the two gunmen who escaped after the shooting incident.

Kerich said the injured children were taken to Kenyatta National Hospital where they are being attended to.  The incident happened near Juhudi Academy where pupils were leaving for home.
