Kirinyaga MP Stephen Ngari welcomes TNA, URP merger saying it shows country's political maturity

There have been mixed reactions following the merger of The National Alliance (TNA) party and the United Republican Party (URP).

The newly formed party, Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) has had its fair share of critics and supporters alike and now Ndia MP Stephen Ngari has added his voice to the debate.

The MP yesterday welcomed the move saying time has come for formation of a formidable political party.

Mr Ngari dismissed those opposed to the merger saying they are wasting their time because "highly competitive politics can only exist where there are no more than three political parties".

"We have moved to a new political dispensation. Gone are the days when political parties operated like they were an individual's personal property," he said.

New era

The MP further observed that the era of brief-case parties has also come to an end and said the merger of TNA and URP is a sign of the country's political maturity.

"The Jubilee Alliance Party will be the vehicle President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy use to get them to office for their second term. The same will be used by prospective Members of Parliament, Senators and County Assembly members," he said.

Ngari was speaking at Ngando Primary School, in his constituency, when he officially unveiled modern toilets built for the institution using Constituency Development Funds.

The toilet was set to opened in September last year but had to be put off when the MP was accosted by a panga wielding assailant.

He however, escaped the attack unscathed after the weapon landed on the school principal who suffered serious head injuries and is yet to resume duty.

At yesterday's function, the MP was accompanied by tight security as he toured other projects in the area.

Meanwhile, a businessman in his early 70's is crying for justice after an order, issued in March 1994 by the High Court in Nairobi, over a prime piece of land remains un-effected.

Justice Shields issued an order requiring Gilbert Road Properties to transfer the land to Francis Maina Muchiri who allegedly bought the plot in March 25, 1974.

However, despite winning the civil suit and securing the order, Maina still has not laid claim to the plot situated at Nairobi West and valued at millions of shillings.

The trader has been reduce to a pauper after police tasked to investigate his complaint allegedly became complacent.

New twist

However, in a letter to the Chair, Commission on Administrative Justice dated April 11, 2013, police denied that Maina is the owner of the said land.

A letter from Directorate of Criminal Investigations advised Maina to pursue his claim through a civil court since the plot has been transferred to one Ezekiel Karanja Ndune.

Maina has now asked the acting Inspector General of Police to order a fresh probe.
