Miss Tourism Kenya, Kisii County's finest Judy Kwamboka after she won the competition on Friday night at Kisii University.

Kisii; Kenya: Judy Kwamboka, 21, a final year student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has been crowned Miss Tourism, Kisii County.

The Bachelor of Science in Public Health student said she will take the opportunity to create awareness on the importance of the girl-child empowerment, and fight malnutrition in the county.

In the event held at the Kisii University, Ms Kwamboka beat ten other finalists to emerge top, and will now represent the county during the Miss Tourism Kenya national finals next month.

"I have never participated in modelling, and my entry into this contest was literally accidental. I believed in myself right from the start, and thankfully, I made it," she said.

Kwamboka thrilled the crowd when she appeared on stage donned in a complete Omogusii traditional attire made of hide.

The search for this year's title holder began at the sub-county level and ended up at the county level where each sub-county was represented.

"The contest aims at identifying and promoting tourism products, increasing tourism awareness and activities while encouraging and improving public-private partnership," said Governor James Ongwae.

The event was attended by the beauty queens from all the nine sub-counties, Deputy Governor Joash Maangi and a host of ward representatives.

"I congratulate the winner and all those who participated in the competition. We have a rich cultural inheritance that we should all be proud of, and let's all strive to preserve it," said Mr Ongwae.
