67-year-old man killed for allegedly stealing green maize in Nakuru

Nakuru, Kenya: Police officers are investigating an incident where a 67-year-old man was killed for allegedly stealing green maize and later dumped at Ndungiri Assistant Chief's office in Rongai Sub County, Nakuru.

The incident was reported by the area chief Tony Kipkurui who found Stephen Mbuthia's body laying at the offices on Friday evening.

Rongai police boss Joseph Mwamburi said it is alleged the deceased Stephen Mbuthia was killed by his neighbor Munga Kinyua 70, for allegedly stealing his maize in the farm.

Mwamburi said the suspect was seen beating the deceased and later dragged him to the assistant chief's office where he died.

“The deceased allegedly went to the suspect’s farm at around 5.30pm and begun plucking his maize but before he left, he was caught and beaten mercilessly and later taken to the office where he succumbed to injuries," said Mwamburi.

The attack left the deceased with serious injuries on his left side of the waist, neck, head, face, hands, legs and his back in addition to excessive bleeding.

Rongai police officers visited the scene and took the body to Nakuru Municipal mortuary for autopsy.

He said incidences of petty crimes like stealing farm produce in the area are on the increase especially during harvesting time.

However, he sounded a warning to members of the public to avoid taking law in their arms but rather report any criminal incidences to the authority for further action.
