Kakamega, Kenya: An estranged husband killed his wife and was in turn killed by an angry mob at Muting’ong’o village in Kakamega County yesterday.

The 35 year-old man, identified as Francis Muyekho, killed the twenty three year old woman for having an illicit affair with her brother-in-law.

Neighbours who spoke to the Standard said that Muyekho came home on Thursday evening and started quarrelling with his wife, afterwards a fight ensured, thus beating her mercilessly.

“She died at around 2.00am on Friday morning. After realizing what he had done, he took the body to a river 10 meters from their house and covered it with leaves,” Caleb Imbiakha, a neighbour reported.

Imbiakha added that the man had been behaving strangely beating  up a young child and was in the process of looking for his brother, who is alleged to have been in a relationship with his wife, when residents realized what he had done they went ahead and lynched him.

Confirming the incident Malava OCPD Justus Kitetu said that neighbours found blood stains in the house and the wife was nowhere to be seen. Later they found her body submerged in the river covered with stones and leaves.

“Francis Muyekho is a jail bird who has been in custody for various offences including robbery with violence and rape cases. He was barely married for two months,” Kitetu said.

He warned residents not to be taking law into their own hands in such case, as it was against the law.
