Kenya Commercial Bank has vowed to win the Kenya Cup League in spite of their unbeaten record coming to the end after they lost to defending champions Top Fry Nakuru RFC 23-20 in an explosive match at Nakuru Athletic Club on Saturday.

Coach Curtis Olago blamed the referee for giving them a raw deal but promised to turn tables in the finals against whomever they meet and win the title for the second time.

“My boys played their hearts out and followed the instructions well. However, we could have turned tables had the referee not penalised my players for obvious mistakes committed by our opponents,” Olago told Feverpitch.

However, Top Fry Nakuru RFC tactician Dominique Habimana promised to retain the cup for the third consecutive year and enter history books as one of the elite clubs that have done so in the past.

He said they would repeat the same feat they inflicted on the bankers last year where they thrashed them on three occasion, twice in the domestic league and once in the Enterprise Cup finals.

“We are taking one match at a time. But we are sure of retaining the cup and would employ different strategies in our next matches,” Habimana told reporters.

Nakuru RFC hosts Kabras Sugar RFC in the semis finals at Nakuru Athletic Club on March 7.

On Saturday, no team managed to get any bonus points with the bankers suffered the most by losing their unbeaten run to arch rivals Nakuru RFC in a match that was physical in the first half.

Martin Owila scored the two tries with Martin Mwita putting over three penalties and a conversion for the defending champions.

The bankers managed two tries, a penalty and a conversion through Darwin Mukidza and Elly Mukaisi (one each) with Mukaisi returning a penalty and a conversion later.
