A high school basketball coach in the US has been suspended for leading his team to a resounding victory against their opponents.
Michael Anderson, the coach of Arroyo Valley high school, was shown the door last week after his team defeated Bloomington High 161-2, a score that caused outrage.
“I did not expect them (Bloomington) to be that bad. I was not trying to embarrass them,” Anderson was quoted in the San Bernardino Sun. “I did not expect my bench to play that well,” he added.
Well, anyone would have congratulated the coach who was riding high after the routing but he engaged in unethical practices.
The coach apparently ‘sat on’ his starters after taking a lead of 104-1 at half-time. And interestingly, before the game took place, Anderson met Chung and assured him his team would not go all out and that they would play with their hands tied behind their backs, Chung agreed to that but it did not happen.
“People shouldn’t feel sorry for my team,” Bloomington coach Dale Chung said. “They should feel sorry for his team, which isn’t playing the game the right way,” he added as he responded to the outcome that critics believe do not show sportsmanship.
Apparently, in every game, the outcome should show that the loser put up a worthy fight, unless there was match-fixing.
