During an ordinary wedding event, most local MCs earn about Sh150,000 to do what they are best known for; keeping the event together and flowing with no hitches.

Besides the MC, the other entertainer to watch is usually a DJ, someone to keep the music going on during the interludes.

With the Christmas and end of the year festivities now on, these entertainers are in high demand with most going for the highest bidder since they are spoilt for choice.

A week ago, the seasoned Nyambane was lost for choice after he got calls from five leading corporate firms, each wanting him to host their end-of-year party.

According to Nyambane whose real name is Walter Mong'are, the reason the corporates want him to host their end of year parties is because he can blend the corporate and entertainment image thanks to a wide range of experience.

Besides his undisputable skills, Nyambane says the other reason corporates like him hosting their events is because he comes with a complete package with a full live band, a DJ, sound and entertainment unit.

"Being an MC is a skill. One must know his audience very well and determine the best communication skills to employ while exercising the art. It is not just about that joke, a little comic act here and there.

No, it is the heart of the party. As an events' organiser, whether you are doing this as a public relations firm or otherwise, this is the one thing you can't gamble with," Nyambane told Pulse.

Asked to disclose the amount he was quoting to the corporates seeking his services, Nyambane declined to comment saying that he deals with that from a "very corporate and business understanding".

Nyambane is not the only person making hay while the sun shines this season. Other top event hosts such as Churchill, Shaffie, Jalas and Eric Omondi are also enjoying this windfall:

Churchill

It is almost impossible to think of hosting a successful event without thinking of Churchill, Kenya's father of showbiz comedy.

With an experience spanning many years, Churchill has held the spot as Kenya's most sought-after MC.

He seems to have taken this art to a whole new level after he was offered to emcee for a presidential function during the Mashujaa Day held in Machakos in October.

Like fine wine, Churchill is getting better with age. Every corporate lists Churchill and Nyambane top when it comes to festivity events. Then...Jalas and Big Ted follow.

Amina

She has lately been hosting some of the coolest entertainment events in the city proving that her communication skills do not just end on radio and TV where she has been doing a lovely job.

Both the young and the elderly like her. Amina is simply a people's person. She is one person you can trust to host your event without worrying about some of the sort of vulgar and tasteless annoying language some comedians use during events. She is hot, presentable and eloquent.

MC Jesse

He has coined himself a name as the father of the new generation of hosts and comedians. Jesse's ability to crack a joke out of anything and using his trademark anecdotes about the shenanigans revolving a woman from Kiambu and a landlord besides keeping the crowd roaring with laughing all the time distinguishes him from the rest.

His well-choreographed performance always blends well with the theme of the function.

Eric Omondi:

If you want your event to be full of comedy and sheer laughter, just tap one Eric Omondi. He is one person who is known to follow Churchill's footsteps by making sure that his name is not only a big brand but has equally managed to balance both corporate and stand-up comedy hence appealing not only to the common mwanachi but to the elite as well.

Eric has had a lot of business coming his way this year.

He has appeared in many commercials besides hosting many successful events and with this kind of hype, he is one MC you expect to be on demand this season.

Chipukeezy

Having positioned himself as a regional entertainer with diverse appeal to both old and young, Chipukeezy, who is arguably the fastest rising comedian across the region, is a face that will be seen in most parties this season.

The difference between 'Chipo' and most of his fellow comedians is that he has a very sober business mind and he knows how to gauge his audience well.

Many organisations have been partnering with him in most of the events they have been holding all year and it is no doubt, this season will be a boom for 'Chipo'.

Shaffie Weru

Who can do better club and outdoor entertainment events better than Shaffie. Well, DNG the hype master has been trying but Shaffie is in a class of his own.

So for this, he takes the mantle as the ultimate parties emcee this season. Shaffie is a great entertainer who knows the industry so well that you can trust him with jobs in any section of the entertainment industry. He also comes in as a good planner with tips on how you can make your event successful.

Jalas

Jalang'o aka Jalas might not have been to any communication school but he is a communication genius. Jalas has mastered the art of keeping his audience engaged whether he is on radio, TV, during an event or just pulling another commercial advert. He has been on top of the game and hardly disappoints.

Mwalimu Rachael

Mwalimu Rachael is one of the fast growing female MCs in Kenya, arguably the best newcomer after the generation of the likes of former TV girl Sheila Mwanyigha. Rachael comes out as a corporate host who can still appeal to a youthful crowd. She has that cool girl demeanour and besides commanding attention thanks to her amazing looks, and she has amazing communication skills.

Mbusi

The local master of sheng who is also a radio host, Mbusi is one person who is not only credited for introducing the local reggae lover into the limelight but is equally a good host known to MC several reggae events.

Unlike his counterparts his bigger following emanates from the grassroots and this has enabled him appeal to the local better than any of them.

This season, expect to find Mbusi hosting a number of events in the city such as those CSR events held by corporates.

Obinna and Ofweneke

It has been a good year for Obinna, thecomic man and as such, he is expected to walk to the bank smiling this festive season thanks to the demand he is attracting.

His space is shared by yet another prolific comedian Dr Ofweneke who has equally had a fruitful year. These two comedians have cut a niche for themselves in the industry as the fresh brand of corporate and social events emcees.

They too come with a unique foreign accent and their rates might be a bit pocket friendly.

Kirwa

A motivational speaker, entertainer and hypeman Kirwa is one person who always seem to know what to do when the crowd least expects it.

Just like Shaffie and many of his fellow hosts the consistent emcee with a vast experience spanning more than two decades is one person whose ability to study and learn the crowd is way above the rest.

Not too hype nor too low, he will always ensure that everything works well for the benefit of the event.
