Mukurwe-ini MP's kin chased and hacked his mother, says witness

Ceaser Thiari

A brother of Mukurwe-ini MP Kabando wa Kabando chased his mother in her compound before killing her.

A witness, Ms Lydiah Wairimu, told the court the accused, Ceaser Thiari, 42, ran after his mother, Rose Wachera, 70, around the compound, prompting the elderly woman to scream for help.

Wairimu said neighbours who were heading to their homes from church heard the screams and rushed to the home of Ms Wachera.

"We met Thiari at the gate running towards the road. He told us that he had finished his job and was heading to the police station," Wairimu recalled before Justice Jairus Ngaah.

Wairimu was testifying in a case in which Thiari has denied killing his mother.

Inside the compound, neighbours found the deceased's body lying in a pool of blood and the panga believed to have been used to hack her beside her chopped head.

"She had deep cuts in the neck with blood oozing and a blood stained panga was beside her head," said Charles Muchiri, another witness.

The villagers apprehended Thiari and handed him to the police.

During the hearing, Thiari remained calm in the dock as five witnesses presented their testimonies.

The prosecution said 12 more witnesses are lined up to testify in the case.

The MP's brother was represented by State Counsel Festus Njue.

The case will be mentioned on September 12, with a further hearing on November 28, this year.
