Tigoni trader's body found dumped by roadside

Kiambu: The body of a businessman who was abducted on his way home was yesterday found dumped by a roadside in Tigoni.

The body of 39-year-old David Mbute from Lari, Kiambu County, was discovered by the public in the morning as they headed to work.

According to Mr Mbute’s father, George Githire, he received information on Monday evening that his son had been arrested by police in Kimende area of Lari.

“I immediately rushed to Kimende sub-police station and did not find him. I proceeded to Uplands Lari police station and he wasn’t there either,” he said.

But Limuru sub-county AP Commander James Mwaura said Mbuta was abducted in Kimende, and his killers transferred the body overnight to Redhill in Tigoni where it was found.

CAUSE OF DEATH

The body had bruises on the neck and was to to undergo a postmortem examination to ascertain the real cause of his death.

Njoroge Kamande, a shopkeeper, said a vehicle that was used to abduct Mbute had been parked in front of his shop for about 20 minutes.

The vehicle’s driver had opened the bonnet, and he lit the security light for him since it was dark.

“I then heard a commotion where Mbuta was slapped, handcuffed and thrown into the boot. When I asked why they were abducting him, they cocked a gun and immediately left,” he said.

Kamande reported the matter to the police and even provided the registration number of the vehicle.

Mbuta was walking home at the time of the abduction near the Equity Bank, Kimende branch.

Kamande said he was not able to identify the abductors.  “I only managed to take the number plates,” he said.
