President Uhuru Kenyatta takes control of key security units in Government

President Uhuru Kenyatta has reorganised his Government, taking control of crucial security departments.

The National Intelligence Service and National Counter-Terrorism Centre have been moved from the Interior ministry to the Office of the President.

President Kenyatta has also moved the National Security Council and the National Security Advisory Committee, which are think-tanks in security matters, to his office.

The office of the Deputy President has been consolidated with that of the Presidency.

Also moved to the presidency include the State Corporations Advisory Committee, Vision 2030, National Economic and Social Council, Power of Mercy Committee, Kenya South Sudan Liaison Office, Kenya International Boundaries Office, Directorate of National Cohesion and Values, the President’s Delivery Unit, Northern Corridor Integration Projects Office and the Inspectorate of State Corporations.

The Ministry of Interior has been left with the police, Kenya Citizens and Foreign Service, Nacada, National Police Service Commission, IPOA and the Betting Control and Licensing Board.

The Ministry of Devolution and Planning under Mwangi Kiunjuri will take control of the multi-billion-shilling Tana and Athi River, Lake Basin Development, Kerio Valley, Ewaso Nyiro and South and Coast Development authorities, which have been under the Environment docket headed by Judi Wakhungu.

New department

State Department for Housing and Urban Development, which was previously under the Lands ministry, has been moved to James Macharia’s Transport docket.

The department of international trade has been hived from the Foreign Affairs ministry, headed by Amina Mohamed and handed over to Adan Mohamed of Trade.

Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries ministry headed by Willy Bett now has a new department to be referred to as fisheries and blue economy under PS Micheni Ntiba.
