Mugo wa Wairimu freed on Sh1 million cash bail

Nairobi, Kenya: Rape suspect Mugo wa Wairimu was Monday morning released on a Sh1m cash bail or bond of Sh5m; the court ordered him to surrender his passport and warned him against contacting witnesses.

Mugo wa Wairimu had earlier been charged with rape and 11 other counts including operating a clinic illegally.

Mugo, who is accused of sexually abusing a patient at his clinic in Githurai 44, came to public limelight after a shocking video footage appeared to show him raping a sedated woman patient.

Since then, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB) and the Nursing Council of Kenya have termed him a quack. Mugo, who runs Prestige Healthcare, situated in Zimmerman estate in Nairobi, was arrested at Gitungo Hotel in Limuru in what police said was in pursuant to criminal reports made to police accusing him of several sexually related offences.
