Six in court over Kiambu land company killings

KIAMBU: Six people were arraigned in a Kiambu court and charged with the murder of directors of a land buying company in the county.

However, the suspects did not take a plea. The court allowed police to detain the accused for 20 days to conclude investigations into the killings of directors of Kihiu Mwiri Land Buying Company.

Four of those who appeared in court had presented themselves at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation headquarters in Nairobi.

Earlier, CID Director Ndegwa Muhoro had said police interrogation had incriminating evidence against the six to warrant them stand trial.

Speaking in Kiambu Monday, Mr Muhoro said they were still looking for four other suspects.

And Deputy President William Ruto has said the Government has rolled out a plan to address the recent killings.

Speaking at Ngeria Girls Secondary, Mr Ruto said State officers have already been deployed to the conflict stricken areas to handle the situation.

“A team of surveyors has been dispatched to Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Murang’a counties among other areas to carry out survey on all lands to facilitate issuing of title deeds to the owners,” he said.

Ruto said several State agencies have been asked to investigate the disagreement that has engulfed Kihiu Mwiri in abid to find a lasting solution.

TITLE DEEDS

Already past and present directors have been interrogated concerning the disputed 1,085 acres, with a team from the department of lands led by Director of Surveys Cesare Mbaria being expected at the farm to scrutinise members’ documents.

About 100 lands officers deployed to the county will be provided security by a police unit. This follows the killing of two committee members who were part of the task force appointed by acting Lands Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to facilitate the issuance of title deeds.
