County finance boss Jimmy Kiamba who denied he is related to Senator Sonko, has been replaced after being implicated in graft. Kiamba’s position was given to the head of county revenue, Luke Gatimu in an acting capacity. Governor Evans Kidero replaced Kiamba and four other treasury officials on April 13 pending conclusion of investigations into corruption cases facing them.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) grilled Kiamba in February 2015 after Sonko wrote to the commission demanding his interdiction over alleged financial scam at City Hall. Sonko told the county assembly on February 10 that: “I wrote to EACC on February 2, 2014 demanding for the interdiction of Kiamba, who is my cousin. EACC replied to my letter on February 6, 2014 promising quick action...”
Kiamba had challenged Sonko to table evidence linking him to graft. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) recently tabled a report recommending the sacking of Kiamba, County Secretary Lilian Ndegwa and three other treasury officials. MCAs had threatened to storm the county offices, lock Kidero’s office and force out accused officials if no action was taken.
“The chief officer for finance (Kiamba) should be surcharged for the loss incurred by the county government through interests charged over non-remittance of monthly contributions to the pension scheme,” The PAC report read in part.
