Football Kenya Federation officials land lengthy sanctions

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has slapped a six-year ban on suspended officials, former FKF Vice-President Sammy Shollei and ex-Nairobi branch chairman Dan Shikanda.

However, the FKF Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Friday at the Kabarak University Guest House lifted the indefinite ban slapped on Nyanza NEC representative Onyango Alila in 2013.

The meeting endorsed full recommendations made by the FKF Disciplinary Committee chairman Prof Moni Wekesa that also slapped a life ban on suspended Coast National Executive Member Hussein Terry for maligning the federation on misappropriation of funds, among other reasons.

The delegates unanimously agreed that the suspended officials had violated the rules and regulations governing football by taking the federation to court. Terry was also found guilty of selling fake uniforms to FKF, which landed the national federation in trouble with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

He was initially suspended indefinitely by the federation for the above-mentioned reasons and for taking FKF matters to the Anti-Corruption Commission.  Terry had refused to table documents to prove his claims before FKF
NEC and on three occasions declined to appear before it to substantiate or prove his claims.

While presenting his report to the meeting, FKF Disciplinary Committee chairman, Prof Moni Wekesa said Terry breached FKF and FIFA rules and regulations and recommended a life ban, which was endorsed by the AGM.

Prof Wekesa said by paying himself players' allowances when he accompanied Harambee Stars in one of the foreign trips, Terry breached FIFA ethics and rules that warranted a life ban.

Prior to the life suspension, Terry was the head of the FKF Youth Committee. FKF President Sam Nyamweya, who chaired the meeting said their hands were tied by rules governing football and the action taken Terry was
justified.

Meanwhile, Terry has termed his life ban by the federation's annual general meeting as 'null and void' and unconstitutional in Kenyan football. Terry said he has spent his personal resources in the administration of football and in fighting corruption and has never swindled funds meant for Harambee Stars' players to pay for his allowances while with the national team abroad.

"I have never swindled any funds meant for players allowances to pay for my allowances and those are pure fabrications," he told FeverPitch. Terry said: "We were never given a chance to defend ourselves ahead of the meeting that suspended us."
