In pictures: Scene of blast at Pangani police station

The scene at Pangani Police Station where a vehicle believed to have been rigged with an improvised explosive device exploded. The vehicle was intercepted by police at a nearby roadblock after it was spotted driving on the wrong side of the road.

When officers tried to question the occupants, they did not get a satisfactory response so they commandeered the vehicle so as to escort it to the police station as a patrol vehicle followed behind. The occupants of the vehicle were two men, according to police.

Upon entering the police station compound, the suspects detonated an improvised explosive device which was located in the car's boot, according to Kenya Police Inspector General David Kimaiyo.
