Maralal, Kenya: Grief engulfed residents of Sagumai village in Maralal following the killing of a woman by an elephant.

According to a resident Mr Lketimba Leshapaiya, the deceased was going home at 6pm after selling milk at the local market when the marauding elephant attacked her and killed her instantly.

The body was taken to Maralal district hospital mortuary.

"We are so much worried as wild animals are wondering at our compounds, it is becoming difficult for us to go outside and for children to go school," he said.

A stricken Sebastian Lengoye told The Standard that they can longer wait to suffer from the elephants and other animals inconveniencing their daily activities.

"We are ready to kill them if the KWS cannot not take action in evacuating them from the area," he adds.

It is barely a week after wild dogs invaded and attacked children herding goats back home in Samburu east. The dogs killed 153 goats.

The incident was confirmed by Samburu county senior game warden Dominic Wambua who said that officers have been deployed to the area to search for the elephant. He also added that the migration into the area by the wild animals is in the increase following famine and drought in the area.
