Britain tells Kenya to go easy on governors

By James Omoro

Homa Bay, Kenya: The British Government has told Kenyan leaders to be patient with county governments to make devolution successful.

British High Commissioner Christian Turner has told members of the Senate, National and County Assemblies to embrace patience with matters pertaining to the county governments.

Speaking when he paid courtesy call to Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti and the area Women representative Gladys Wanga in their offices, Dr Turner said prosperity of the County Government should be considered a gradual process.

The High Commissioner said governors should be given time since it was too early to decide their strengths and weaknesses.

He expressed concern that Kenyans had high expectations from their county governments, including those that can be met right now and those that can be met in future, and told them to give their governors time to achieve the promises.
