Hackers invade CJ Willy Mutunga communication channels, judiciary promises to act

By Standard Digital Reporter

The office of the Chief Justice has claimed that various communication channels of Chief Justice Willy Mutunga have been hacked by people it did not name.

A statement from the Chief Justice’s Communication Office said that Mutunga’s email and Twitter accounts have been hacked; telephone conversations tapped and meetings secretly recorded severally.

Consequently, the judiciary has disclosed that it is following up on unnamed perpetrators who it says are criminals who deserve to be dealt with in accordance with the law.

“The Judiciary leadership is determined to eliminate this surveillance culture by closing in on the small, cowardly and criminal enterprise that believes that it can violate official and private communication at will. Anyone who can hack an email can also doctor documents,” reads the statement signed by Kwamchetsi  Makokha of the CJs Communication Office.

However, the statement did not give indications whether claims of hacking and tapping of the judiciary’s communication were as a response to an expose’ by The Standard  on a strategy aimed at ousting Chief Registrar Gladys Shollei.

“The content of the statements published in a section of the media in reference to ongoing investigations within the Judiciary will not draw comment for now.” Read the statement.
