Deputy President William Ruto assures farmers NCPB assets will not be sold

Eldoret, Kenya: Deputy President William Ruto has assured farmers that the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) assets will not be sold.

Ruto said a group of individuals wanted to fleece the cereals board of its assets which he said was the people’s property.

‘Some few individuals want to fleece the board of its assets but I want to assure you that the government will not allow that,’ said Ruto.

Speaking at Chelelmetio village in Uasin Gishu County during the burial of mzee John Kipyator Olbara, the Deputy President said the Government has set aside sufficient funds to buy maize from farmers this year.

The Deputy President was accompanied by Uasin-Gishu senator Isaac Melly, Deputy Governor Daniel Chepnoo,  keiyo South MP Jackson Kiptanui, his Moiben counterpart Silah Teren and Soy MP Sammy Barchile and former cabinet minister Nicholas Biwott among others.

NCPB has been engaged in a legal tussle with a firm over a contract to supply maize on an emergency basis during a drought that was declared a nation disaster in 2004.

It has however emerged that the firm known as erad did not supply maize.

The matter is now before the Parliamentary Public Committee.
