URP threaten to expel Isaac Ruto for undermining Jubilee Government

NAIROBI, KENYA: United Republican Party (URP) has threatened to expel Bomet County Governor Isaac Ruto for criticising the Jubilee Government.

Over 40 MPs led by Benjamin Lagat and Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso also want Ruto to resign if he is not satisfied with the way Jubilee is handling devolution.

In a statement issued at a Nairobi hotel, the MPs defended the President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto administration saying it was committed to its promises.

The MPs asked Ruto to quit the ruling coalition if he is disgruntled and seek fresh mandate using any of the opposition parties.

“If he thinks Jubilee is not committed to devolution, I want to ask him to resign any go to Cord of any other party that he believes is committed to supporting count y governments,” Langat who read a statement on behalf of the leaders said.

The Ainamoi MP said that URP will soon convene a special NEC meeting to ask those members who don’t believe in the party ideals anymore to quit.

On Tuesday, Ruto who chairs the Governors Summit was quoted attacking the Uhuru-Ruto regime saying the administration was not committed to devolution.

And last week, the outspoken county boss attended a function in Homabay where he criticized the questioning of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s aide Eliud Owalo over allegations of plotting to destabilize the Government.

However, all these has not gone down well with URP MPs who ironically accused Ruto of being part of the wider scheme by the opposition and some unnamed foreigners to sabotage government.

A defiant Ruto told off the MPs saying they are just excited over nothing saying he will stay focused on pushing for full implementation of devolution.

He laughed off at accusation of being used by foreigners to sabotage the Jubilee government terming it an old Kanu cliché that was used to fight independent minded leaders.

“They must have heard that when they were in primary school of working with foreigners and opposition and now have picked it. What we are raising are pertinent issues and we want to see their committee and not personalized attacks.”

Ruto said the agenda of devolution does not belong to any party be it Jubilee or Cord but for all Kenyans; a cause he will fight for in spite of the threats.
