President Uhuru Kenyatta receives five new envoys

Nairobi, Kenya: President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday received credentials from five incoming envoys at State House, Nairobi.

The envoys were the new Norwegian Ambassador to Kenya Dr. Hanns Brattskar, Ambassador Maria Eugenia Correa Olarte of Colombia, the Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See, Archbishop Charles Daniel Balvo, Ambassador Marcella Maria Nicodemos of Brazil and Ambassador Jhony Fredy Balza Arismendi of Venezuela.

Addressing the ambassadors, President Uhuru assured of his Government’s commitment to working closely with them to enhance cooperation between Kenya and their respective countries.

The Head of State said Kenya welcome exchange of ideas and experiences with friendly countries that would contribute to improving the lives of Kenyans.

“I am looking forward to working closely with you in not only improving relations between our countries but also for the benefit of the people of our countries,” Uhuru said.

Presenting his credentials, Norwegian Ambassador Brattskar hailed the existing development cooperation between Kenya and Norway particularly in the areas of multilateral forums, exchange of culture and growing business
and investments.

Ambassador Brattskar commended Kenya’s role in ensuring regional peace and stability particularly in Somalia.

“I can assure Your Excellency that we will work with Kenya and other friendly countries to further improve stability in Somalia for the country’s sustainable development,” the Norwegian Ambassador said.

On her part, Ambassador Olarte of Colombia noted that her country has continuously maintained close bilateral ties with Kenya since 1971 and considers Kenya as a great ally and partner at the international arena.

The Colombian Ambassador further expressed her country’s desire to work with Kenya in economic growth, culture, education and security.

“My work in this country aims at fulfilling these desires and thus further strengthen our bonds,” Ambassador Olarte said.

Speaking after presenting his credentials, Archbishop Balvo, the incoming Holy See Apostolic Nuncio, pledged the Catholic Church’s support to President Kenyatta’s efforts to improve the lives of Kenyans.

“Mr President, as you strive to improve the lives of the people of Kenya, you can count on the generosity of the Catholic Church, to help the sick, the orphans, the homeless and all those who live on the margins of society, in order to make that same society more humane and just,” Archbishop Balvo said.

Ambassador Nicodemus of Brazil, on her part, reiterated her President’s congratulatory message to President Kenyatta, saying the successful electoral process that was guided by a strong spirit of national cohesion was a victory to Kenyan democracy in the country’s Jubilee year of independence.

The Brazilian envoy noted that top level cooperation, including exchange visits, has helped in cementing further bilateral relations between Kenya and Brazil thereby invigorating trade and investment ties.

Present were Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed, Principal Secretary Eng. Karanja Kibicho, Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Kimemia and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Europe desk Director Amb Lazarus Amayo among others.
