Six killed in horror smash

Six people among them a university student died and scores injured in a fatal road accident in Kisumu County.

The accident occurred at Pala, three kilometres from Awasi, and was a result of a collision between a personal car from Kisumu with an Eldoret-bound matatu from Kericho.

According to witnesses, the matatu was overloaded with over 16 passengers on board.Nyando OCPD Elias Gitonga said four people died on the spot.

Mr Gitonga said the matatu driver might have escaped since he was not found at the scene of the accident.“Among the passengers who died was a Moi University student, a woman and two men,” he said.

Gitonga said two more died while undergoing treatment at the Nyanza Provincial Hospital while five others were treated and discharged.

“There are nine casualties admitted at the facility,” said Gitonga.He said the cause of the accident had not been established and they were still conducting investigation.
